Welcome
Azasou (pronounced Azan-soo) means "The right moment" or "celebration time". It originates from the Ewe tribe in the Volta region of Ghana (West Africa).
In a moment of dialogue with others, we exchange more than thoughts and stories. We travel into the other's worldview and trade experiences of our own, which nurture the development of community.
The linkages between community, trade and travel are interdependent and instantaneous in their occurrence. They are further enriched when we engage with others from diverse backgrounds. We travel further, are transformed deeply, and exchange more stories.
Azasou aims to facilitate this exchange between diverse communities in the following areas:
Community: Involves engaging with individuals, groups and organizations in Australia and Africa to consult with & support people who are marginalized by society towards influencing decision-making and choice of services that benefit them, as well empowering communities to take ownership for creating their own preferred futures. We use Open Space Technology as a process towards facilitating discussions with groups.
Trade: Involves creating a market place where people can purchase goods as well as share stories and dialogue within local communities and also between Australia and Africa.
Travel: Involves facilitating opportunities for people to travel between Australia and Africa to experience the diversity of cultures while enhancing and sharing their own stories.
These three areas are represented by our symbol of three nested circles called the "Adinkrahene". This symbol, which is traditionally black and white, is the lead symbol from the powerful collection of Adinkra symbols from West Africa. Adinkrahene is the symbol of Charisma, prudence, magnanimity and servant leadership.
Some words used by Azasou are in Ewe or Ashanti, but are translated for your understanding.
Azasou does not rely on government funding. We do however ensure that financial profits are turned into relational profits, which benefit humanity directly through our community development work.
We hope you enjoy our web site.
